The Story Behind the Pack

The Wolf in Every Dog

Scratch beneath the fluffy coat of any breed and you will find a descendant of Canis lupus — the grey wolf. Over thousands of years, companionship has softened their features, but digestive systems have barely changed. Modern dogs still digest protein most efficiently, benefit from moderate fats, and need very few starches to thrive. Wolf of Wilderness was designed with this biology in mind.

Every recipe begins with fresh meat — not meal, not by-products. Dry formulas contain between 41% and 61% fresh poultry, fish or red meat, while our wet pouches reach as much as 66%. The remaining ingredients read like a foraging map of a northern European forest: cranberries, blueberries, raspberries, dandelion root, nettle, yarrow, fennel and chicory. Together they deliver fibre, vitamins, and the subtle plant compounds that supported wolves long before domestication.

Our recipes are produced in Germany, where family-run facilities follow strict European quality controls. Every batch is traceable, every ingredient audited, and nothing superfluous is added — no wheat, no gluten, no soya, and no synthetic colours or flavours. That discipline is why Wolf of Wilderness has become a trusted name for UK owners whose dogs struggle with sensitivities or simply deserve a recipe closer to their natural diet.

What's Actually in the Bowl

Our "Classic" range, built around fresh chicken, offers a familiar, easy-to-digest protein that suits most adult dogs. The "Taste Of" range explores regional inspirations — wild game in mountain recipes, river salmon and trout in northern blends, and grass-reared lamb where alpine meadows meet ancient forests. Each geographical story is more than marketing: it is reflected in the hero ingredient and the supporting cast of locally inspired herbs.

Carbohydrates come from potatoes, a gentle, low-allergen source of slow-release energy. Unlike wheat or maize, potatoes avoid the gluten and lectins that can irritate sensitive guts. Alongside potato, you'll find dandelion root (known for liver support), nettle (rich in natural minerals), yarrow (a traditional digestive tonic), fennel (soothing for the stomach) and chicory (a prebiotic fibre that nurtures healthy gut bacteria). Berries — cranberry, blueberry and raspberry — contribute polyphenols and vitamin C for immune resilience.

Wet recipes in our "Soft & Strong" and pouch formats push meat inclusion up to 66%, making them perfect as a full meal, a topper, or a gentler option for older dogs and fussy eaters. The pouches are cooked at low temperatures to preserve texture and aroma, then sealed without artificial preservatives. Serve warm or straight from the fridge — the meaty gravy alone is enough to bring most dogs running.

Who the Recipes Are For

If your dog is prone to itchy skin, runny stools or ear infections, a grain-free recipe can often make a noticeable difference within two to four weeks. Active breeds benefit from the high protein and steady energy of our adult formulas, while small breeds appreciate the mini kibble shape for easier chewing. Puppies and juniors have dedicated life-stage recipes balanced with calcium, phosphorus and DHA to support bone, joint and cognitive development. Senior dogs often do particularly well on our soft recipes, which are easy on ageing teeth and gentle on digestion.

Switching foods should be gradual — a week of slowly increasing Wolf of Wilderness in the bowl while reducing the previous diet gives the microbiome time to adapt. Plenty of fresh water should always be available, and portion sizes adjusted to body condition rather than breed averages. For a complete roadmap, our feeding guide walks through the process, including the common mistakes that catch new owners out.
